Frequently asked questions
The newest Minelab Mods 2016
The newest upgrades for the GP and GPX series detectors, such as the GP Extreme, GP3000 GP3500 GPX4000 GPX4500 GPX4800 GPX5000 are designed to get more gold out of previously worked ground. These newest upgrades will get you larger gold at greater depth in noisy ground and also smaller gold at greater depth in noisy ground.
All of our upgrades come with a 5 year warranty, all upgrades are guaranteed to greatly improve the performance of a standard detector. The latest modifications are tested out by Bob White from Charters Towers in QLD Australia, a very well known prospector related to Jonathon Porter who does the Minelab video series. Bob has come up with some well proven settings for getting more gold, he consistently out detects users of the GPZ7000 and SDC2300 with his fully updated GPX5000, many of his friends have seen the results and sent their detectors to us for the full upgrades. There are many proficient detector operators around Australia that can train people in the use of an upgraded detector.
Here are some questions and answers that people ask.
Minelab state that if my detector is modified they will not work on it.
True, it is not an issue as we can repair Minelab detectors and carry spare parts.
Can I use my detector as standard, can I turn the mods off and operate as standard.
You can dumb down the detector to operate as standard but it would be like installing
a V8 engine and pulling off two ignition leads to make it run as a six cylinder.. Pointless!
What do the mods do?
Increase the signal to noise ratio, that means making the target pop out of the background noise by reducing the self induced noise from the electronics and ground.
Can the mods be used with all coils, are there any limitations?
The mods will work perfectly with all coils, the mods will tame the most noisy coil.
Can the mods help with small gold like what the SDC2300 gets?
Absolutely, we found that using the variable frequency mod the detector will go deeper on small gold than an SDC2300 , By setting the Variable Frequency and Front end gain mod that the detector will ping the most tiny gold at greater depth.
Can I still tune out interference if the Manual tune is converted to Variable Frequency?
Yes and more easily, just one number difference on the tuning scale from 0-255 move the operation of the detector far away from any interference.
Can I still use autotune?
You can but it is pointless, as you set the manual tuning to either high, medium or low numbers depending on the coil size and gold that you have optimised the detector for.
Can the detector compete with the new GPZ7000
Many of our customers have purchased GPZ7000 detectors and sold them, yes the mods will help you detect as good as and if not better than a GPZ7000 and SDC2300 Combined. You can use lighter standard coils and have many choices of coils.
Why is there so much negativity about mods on the internet?
If you were selling new detectors for a living and people had their detector modded instead of buying new detectors, what would you expect? Many of the web forums on gold prospecting are owned by dealers who are missing out on sales on new detectors, the negativity in regards to mods is created to make you buy new detectors. We have modded the personal detectors of Minelab dealers and that is a fact, no names as they would lose their dealerships.
Will the mods work in all modes?
yes they will, Normal, Enhance,Fine Gold, Sharp and the rest of the modes.
On my detector I only have normal mode, is it worth doing the mods?
The best mode for detecting is normal mode but the detectors are too noisy on hot ground, after the upgrades are done you can detect in normal mode, get small as well as big gold while reducing ground noise and hot rocks. If you have Enhance on a detector like a 4500 or 5000 the upgrades allow you to adjust the detector pulse to get bigger deeper gold in very very hot ground.
Do I get instruction with the mods/upgrades.
Yes currently 3 pages of settings to get you started.
Are mods difficult to use?
No it is very easy and straight forward.
Will I find more gold with a modded detector?
The mods will 100% get gold that is out of reach or hidden in the noise of a standard detector.
What does it cost to fully upgrade a detector?
SD series are $1250 GP series are $1500 GPX series are $1800 all with 5 year warranty. We constantly are having the upgrades field tested and the latest upgrades are always installed.
Is it worth it? Should I buy a SDC2300 or GPZ7000?
All I would say is that I myself use a fully modded GPX4500, I have tested it against the SDC and GPZ and I beat them at the test sites in Talbot and Laanacoorie in Victoria.
How long does it take?
When its the off season (stinking hot) it take 1-2 weeks, when it cools down we get very busy with detectors arriving from all over the world.
Where do I send the detector?
Just send the control box to Link Technologies PO Box 5165 Frankston Victoria 3199
