Technical / New GPX-4500 GPX-5000 Mods...
« on: February 15, 2015, 12:13:01 am »
Looks like we can get  40% plus on big targets with our newest mods... 40% also on small Gold.  Just need some field testing done...

This applicable to all GPX GP and SD2100 SD2200  detectors.

More information to be released via the news subsrciption on the home page.

It is difficult to turn a mod off, it can be done but it would need fet or relay switching, both methods would create signal loss or noise generated by the relay contacts, switches would also cause noise in the sensitive input part of the circuit. One of the biggest problems that we have with detectors is the coil connectors, the tiny resistance of the contacts actually introduce noise into the circuit.  To mod a 5000 takes 1 week.  I am still working on some big improvements.  One word of advice to anyone with old detectors, do not sell them as they will be worth a fortune later this year.. more on that later.

It is taking some time to get all the bugs out, maybe another month.

New Detector accessories / Re: Interference filter
« on: January 12, 2015, 09:58:08 am »
Hi Ken, I have had very good feedback on the filter, most users tell me they get a depth increase, maybe it is removing very high frequency interference that we cannot hear but impairs the electronics in the detector.

Yes its done, I have not really started to advertise it but it runs headphones and speakers and the sound has no hiss and has its amplitude controlled so it does not blow out your ears, also the booster has voltage display and one switch turn off for the booster and the detector so no more flat batteries from forgetting to power off both.

The cable is supplied, it has to be made from the correct wire.

The filter will now work on all detectors in all modes as long as you use a mono coil, DD filters are available but they require more work and thus cost more.

Technical / Re: wiring of plug on headphones gpx 5000

The big shield or braid goes to the big body connection the other 2 wires go to the 2 smaller lugs, it does not matter what wire goes to what lug. If you have a mono plug join the red and white to the same lug or you can ignore the black and use the red and white but you will get reduced sound output.

Technical / Re: F1A4 power plug pin-out query ..

I had a look at this problem and have come up with a mod to completely remove that switch mode supply... its just a few pin changes on an IC.

Soon to be available is an upgrade that will allow GP and GPX series detectors to detect small gold similar to the capabilities of the SDC2300.

The Class D amplifier was a great idea but the problem was increased interference when using a large coil, Class A B amplifiers that use common amplifier topography generate high levels of hiss type background noise and this is particularly bad using metal detectors with low threshold volume.  We came up with a high quality class B design that has next to zero hiss and generates no extra noise. It only draws 5 milli amps with no input and thus has no noticeable effect on battery drain. This is a winner, to be released soon.

I think the links are dead.

Some more testing has been carried out by the minions, needs a few more tweaks but good improvements are to be had.

That is an interesting observation, the frequency setting seems to work with stock standard detectors but with the mods it changes the ratio shown as tuning numbers on the LCD, with the mods it is ok just to autotune it.

Here is a vid of the filter being tested.
