General Discussion / First run since repair, KUDO's to Woody!
« on: October 16, 2019, 12:30:14 pm »
Last year, I had issues, just not finding any gold. Throw a test nugget down, no problem, but did my test- bury a 1/2 gram lead nugget at 14-16", it wouldn't hear it. At end of my season, I sent it to Woody to check out. He found 2 issues on the Minelab side. Hey! I bought this like 2 years after it came out, no fault on Minelab. He fixed it and more! I thought I had the latest mod done; his paperwork said I wanted a mod so he did more. When billing came around, we reached a favorable compromise to each.
Went to Rye Patch NV last week with some friends. First thing I did was bury my 1/2 gram lead nugget at 14". Adjusted front gain as per instructions, then set setting like I had before; had to tweek it abit, but can hear it.
Out in the field, we hit some well hit old patches. Got 1 little one with the 4500.
What impressed me most, I run the EVO 12", that damn 4500 ran so smooth scrappy the ground and bushes as one does when hunting 'hunted out areas'. Others complained of EMI, static electricity, not me!
If someone were to ask me, what's the best detector out there?  I would suggest the 4500 and Woody's mod! Best bang for the buck!
Thank You Sir

General Discussion / Interesting test
« on: March 27, 2018, 02:07:15 pm »
Spent some time down in Quartszite last week. Have a tool Patrick designed that will plant a 'test nugget' at a known depth without disturbing ground too much. Planted a 1/2 gram piece of lead at 16". My 4500 (w/ Woodys mod) heard it quite well as did Bill S's 3500 (w/ Woodys mod). A stock 5000 could not hear it. A 7000 barely heard it scraping the ground. A friend in Prescott has a test patch and can hear a 1/3 gram at 24". Mods work! Good on you Woody!

General Discussion / new mod settings on 4500
« on: November 28, 2016, 11:51:54 am »
Getting ready for second trip to Q for this year with latest mods on my 4500. Last month there, I did as you suggested- went to factory default settings, run in normal, set rear gain at 5, was able to set front gain almost at max. I noticed I was able to lower threshold to 11:30-12 o’clock and still have smooth threshold (before, I needed to run at 1-1:30 to be smooth).
I’m running the 12” EVO coil. Quartzsite is pretty neutral as far as mineralization. As suggested, hit areas I found gold before and dig up what I missed. I’m king of one nugget patches and when I find a nugget, I grid- no gold last trip. Being honest, wasn’t out for long days cause it was bloody too hot for this ol ass. My first target was foil at close to 2’ down (had to go back to camp to get pin-pointer to confirm it wasn’t in sidewall of hole and it wasn’t). Believe, I just didn’t over any gold. Dug some pretty deep small targets tho, slivers of lead, minute pieces of rust.
The 12” EVO is all I ran last month. This next trip, I am going to start off with the NF 20” RM. My thoughts on settings: smooth signal is an absolute must! Low mineralization, so set front gain at max, back gain at 5, if smooth run back gain up a notch or two, when it gets a bit scratchy, lower front gain till smooth. When I work an area with the 20”, if I get a good target, I’ll mark and come back with the 12”.
   Any suggestions or recommendations?
