General Discussion / Re: new generation coils on gp series detectors
« on: June 27, 2019, 11:30:26 am »
Sorry it’s been forever for me to respond but life gets busy and there just hasn’t been time to get out with my modded 5000 yet.  Combine that with all the development going on in our gold fields that equates to lost access.  Hopefully by this fall I can get back out.

I agree with what Shep says.  Learn the detector in its stock form first and then have it modded.  I just got mine back from having Woody’s mods done.  Unfortunately it’s done nothing but snow and rain here since and I have not been able to try it out.  I have however had two other detectors modified by Woody and those mods improved those detectors.

Ian, you won’t be disappointed.  I just got mine back and  feel the added adjustments are going to be a great addition.

General Discussion / Re: Mods for the 5000

It arrived this afternoon and I did some air tests using an 11 inch Detech ultra spiral wound mono indoors.  All I can say is WOW.  Super quiet.  I use to have to use cancel inside or even near the house outside.  The depth of a 1dwt was almost 12 inches.  Variable gain and variable frequency will definitely be a plus.  Soon as it stops raining I will get out in the field with it.

I know this is an old topic but I have a question for anyone who can provide an answer.

Regarding the front end gain mod and just how far it can be tuned up -

Does the increased stability of a double D coil allow the front end gain to be set higher without incurring increased noise as would be the case with a mono?

I’m wondering the same thing.  I’m thinking the front end gain and variable frequency mods should really help pump up a DD coil if you can run a little more pumped up because of the quietness of a DD coil.  I’ll soon find out as soon as my GPX 5000 gets back here.

No , no response but I’ll know in few days.  I sent it to get the variable frequency and front end gain mods and it should be back to me in few days.

General Discussion / Mods for the 5000

Hey Woody, just wondering if there are any additional mods for the GPX 5000 over the past 6 months or so.  Still thinking about modding my 5000 instead of spending 8 grand on a GPZ7000.

I’ve always seen improvements with the mods he’s done on my detectors.

Is this ground for testing your mods and products or for having detecting excursions/tours on?

General Discussion / Similar coil for a GP or GPX
« on: March 05, 2018, 08:29:50 am »
Since I’ve been hearing about how the coil is one of the biggest differences and advantages of the GPZ 7000 All the detectors give off a transmit signal and recieve a return response, I’m wondering could a similar coil be made that would give some advantage to the GP and GPX machines.

Sure is quiet over here lately.  Must be out detecting and testing new mods.

Woody
I going to find out about the 5000 here in a few months cause I’m planning on sending mine your way.  I’m wondering if a similar coil could be designed for the GPX series machines.

Impressive results.   Where does one purchase a detact coil from here in the US and how do those coils compare to Nugget Finder?
Woody, the one thing I have noticed with the GPZ 7000 vs a stock GPX 5000 is its ability to find small gold at depth.  A friend of mine has found almost 2 ounces of gold with his 7000 to another friends 5000’s 2dwt.  All in the same amount of time.  All of it in small gold at depth that it takes 15 or so pieces to add up to 2 to 2.5 dwt per outing.  I agree with you to a point when it comes to wasting time finding small gold but when that’s all that exists in a given area you go with what’s there.
Will your lastests mods that I’m considering having you do on my 5000 going to improve the small gold at depth?
  Thanks Woody,
