If you see a cheap GPX-4500 or a cheap GPX-5000 it might be a good idea to hold onto it, I have been very busy working away on some changes to the circuitry that makes a very big difference to depth, by careful component selection and additional active filters we can remove a lot more ground noise while cutting out the radio interference while increasing the input gain to get greater sensitivity and depth. More to come after Beta testing. The current upgrades allow you to get the relative same performance as a SDC2300 without the coil size and type restriction. Depths greater than the GPZ-7000 are obtained and also no coil size restriction.

These were 6 months in the design testing and manufacture,  watch the video , it says it easier than typing it all out.

It is proven beyond doubt that the modded up GPX detectors go deeper at the same time getting smaller gold than the SDC2300 also with a DD coil it will easily match or beat the GPZ7000 and with a larger coil it will go deeper than a GPZ7000 on big gold.

This post has been partially removed by myself as per requested by Daniel Widera (Legal Council) on behalf of Minelab.

If there is any more postings that Minelab allege that are misleading then a phone call is all you need to do, sending threatening letters only generates bad business.

Hi Chip,
I have had a lot of positive feedback from customers, when you can accurately set the pulse frequency with the correct amount of front end gain the depth and sensitivity is exceptional. I am writing an article that will appear in the Gold Gem and Treasure magazine that explains in some detail the benifits of being able to have full control of these detector attributes.

Our latest testing with the Sunbury metal detecting club shows that a modded GPX4500 has greater detection depth than the GPZ7000,  that is not all, the GPZ7000 had a 14" coil but the modded GPX4500 had an 8"   yes only 8 inch mono coil.  The target tested was a natural 3 ounce gold nugget.  The GPX4500 in high frequency modded mode eats the SDC2300 on small gold at greater depth. The front end dual channel tracking variable gain mod and the variable frequency mods are opening up old detected ground and is producing nuggets missed by other detectors.

Been waiting for a long time to get this one done.

General Discussion / Re: Frequencys

Hi Wes, that is a difficult one as the pulses are mixed with different lengths over one transmission cycle. The sd2000 had 4 X 60us followed by 1 at 240us for memory, as the models were slowly made more sensitive to smaller gold the pulse lengths became shorter and the receiver off time was reduced. Different modes like enhance, shart and fine gold can se pulses as short as 6us combined with 35us and 120us in the pulse cycle. The detectors do not technically run at a constant frequency but more as a collection of different on and off times in a repititious cycle.

Minelab has done the prospecting community a big favour keeping the GPX5000 in continued production and making available the GPX4500 as well.  The feed back on the mods has been nothing short of spectacular. So much more gold is being found from old ground with modded detectors. I find it very difficult to get customers to say much as they want to keep it a secret, i know one fellow who kept the mods secret from his detecting buddy.

Gold..... It does strage things to people..

Some customers tell me they can get better results with the modded GPX than a SDC or a GPZ   but my own testing has already shown that to be the case.

There is an advantage be it slight in getting a dual voltage detector like the GP Extreme and up, it is not really dual voltage it is only that the 3 shorter pulses have been increased to drive the coil with 15 volts rather than 5 volts allowing a a shorter duty cycle getting more pulse sets per given time period. The same amount of power as in watts is just the same.  My question is why not raise all pulse lengths to 15 volts output and shorten the duty cycle even more? This wouls allow more samples to be taken. Then why not raise all coil drive to 100 volts?   more samples again given a set duty cycle.. maybe that will be in the gp???  10,000.   Its all watts...

It say's a lot about the US / Australian free trade agreement...

Wes, i hope you get it back soon, its taken far too long.  The new stuff will be worth the wait.

Technical / Re: New GPX-4500 GPX-5000 Mods...

A fellow in Charters Towers (Bobby), related to a well known metal detecting personality compared  his modded GPX 5000 up against a SCD2300......after testing he said "I thrashed it"   then a GPX7000 was produced..... "I thrashed that also"  was the statement that was made.

The same result came from Halls creek with the side by side comparison.

Minelab make some very good detectors, but this new thing they have out...what can I say?,  just go and read the detecting forums that are not subjected to commercial bias.

Well its been an interesting time, I've purchased a lot of new test equipment including low frequency FFT analysers, super fast 400 Mhz Oscilloscope, Frequency/function generators, Low frequency spectrum analyser, low frequency network analyser, differential noise analyser and 5 Msp digital oscilloscope. The most cutting edge circuitry is being worked on to improve all gp and gpx detector several orders of magnitude.    We have a hell of a lot of improvements coming for the next detecting season.  Input noise is now 6 decibels lower and this is a huge improvement on existing stock standard detectors.
