any hope

Old Eyes:
Hi  I have a MINELAB GP SERIES coil that was splashed by mud  and now will not signal a visible target on the surface
but will signal when passed over my pick   I was told that it is not  repairable  and was basically a throw away
do you think that would be so or maybe worth trying a repair
