General Discussion / Re: new generation coils on gp series detectors
« on: August 10, 2017, 07:19:29 pm »
Hi Debongos
I tried for an hour or so but still got some noise on hot patches. Testing in the test bed I lost quite a bit of depth so mainly stayed in normal. I've been working myself to the bone lately so haven't had a chance to get out for a few weeks. Starting to get twitchy and Shi" so I'm going to have to make it soon!  Herb

Thanks Peter
Thanks for the tips. Can't seem to get my detector running close to those settings but can get to run smooth on lower ones. The main drama is I seem to be getting a lot more hot pockets of ground compared to before mods but after digging 6" down they disappear. Makes the ground look like three times as many nuggets came off it than did and exhausts me! Have to keep playing with coils and settings . Cheers Herb

For sale and swap / Re: Wanted 8x6 NF Sadie coil please

G'day Deepdigger,
Sorry I haven't got a sadie but just wondering why you would prefer an 8x6 over a 14x9  or 12" evo or elite ,as the gold you'll find with either of these will be on the verge of time wasting gold but your coverage will be a lot better not to mention depth ?

Hey all , I was wondering if anyone out there has compared the 17x11 coiltec elite against the 17x13 Nf evolution with either a modded 45 or 5000 ? Would be interested to know whether coiltec elite is quieter. Cheers Herb.

Hey Joeboy
I'd be pretty sure the17x13 evo would be sweet on your modded 3000 and used to be responsible well behaved on my 45 before mods. It's a sensitive coil that can pick up bits almost not worth digging. It's good to hear Debongos can get his running sweet which gives me hope. Tried running factory gain 1 stabiliser 1 and could get new gain up to 1/3 but still a bit talkative. Wonder about the advice you got given about turning frequency fully clockwise on startup and if that would work with the new gain. Anyways I'm confident I'll get it sorted cheers

G'day Debongos
Good to hear someone else out there is using the same outfit as me (17" evo on the modded 45).Just wondering what settings you running as I'm having dramas controlling this beast . I'm in hot ground in Wa where I found a patch before I got my 45 modded and I know there's more there, except since modding am struggling with ground noise. I've tried running the new gain backed right off with rx gain on 1 but still noisy. Set up a test bed and can pick up a 1.8 g lead shot at 450 mm and a 2.5 oz lead sinker at 800+. Full new gain rx gain on 1 stabiliser 1 gives awesome results but too noisy to run in the field at this setting. Does the new gain have to be set full on start up or anything else I've missed.Cheers for any help and hope your finding the good stuff!

G'day Woody and all,
Is this start up process the same for the 4500 ? I had mine modded earlier this year and have only had a couple chances to use it since . Mine seems sensitive to ground mineralization and hot rocks! Stella depth when rx gain 1 stabiliser 1 new gain full, if I could get to run nicer on the hot ground over here in WA I'd use this setting all the time! Keep up the good work Herb

Cheers Woody
I'm still swinging an unmodded 45 and standard battery that came with it and no booster I'll try another coil next time I go out but the evolution 17x13 I've got on there is relatively new ! The headphones dont make the noise when not in noise cancelling .I don't have another battery to try but may be able to borrow a mates. I'll hopefully be looking at sending you my detector in the new year to work your magic upgrade on. Will this help ? And  what's the turn around time roughly ? Cheers Herb

General Discussion / New headphones

Hey all and Woody
I recently bought some new headphones and speaker off you Woody and had a chance to try them out the other day. The headphones are great and a pleasure to use . It sounds like your using a booster when using these in noise cancelling mode . Great but not perfect as with a lot of things  . I get a slight high pitch noise when using in noise cancelling mode . I ve experienced this before when using a booster and it's slightly annoying when using in this mode all the time . Can this be easily rectified ? Also the cord could be another 6" longer as mine pulled out during the day's detecting . I'm am 6'3" though so they'd be no worries for anyone shorter. Crystal clear on the targets even when not in cancelling mode . Speaker ok but sounds a bit tinny and quiet but as I only use it for back up it'll do the job! Any one else used these headphones or speaker ? Any thoughts ?
                 Cheers Herb

Hey Ron & Jean  Nice work in Tibooburra  sounds like you had a great trip. Just wondering why you didn't get any gold with the carbon coil ? Did you try it on the extreme or the 5000 and did you try it on a confirmed signal found with another coil ? Just wondering as I have been toying with the idea of getting a larger one . Cheers Herb

Hey guys , I was using an 18x12 goldstalker up until about 12 mths ago and found it very good until it got a loose wire or something in it . Now I'm using the 17x13 evolution and find it sensitive and quiet most of the time. I get good depth and got a 5 Gm nugget the other day at about 15 inches , which was heard easily.i was fairly impressed by this as I it was under a couple half decent sized rocks and I am still running the unmodded 45 .Hey Woody ,do you still do coil windings as I wouldn't mind getting a larger one say 36" .How do these run on a modded 4500/ 5000 ? Cheers

New Detector accessories / Re: Batteries

G'day Woody , I too am interested in a backup battery for my 45. Was just wondering what the life span of the battery is and how much detecting time I'll get between charges? Also what are the chargers like as the  old had reports of being cheap ? Thanks Herb

Hi all , I hear you've been doing some nice work woody, how are the new upgrades going? How's the 4500 perform with the new upgrades compared to the 7000. Are carbon coils still around and how do the bigger coils go with the new mods ? New to this forum biso. Hope to hear from you soon . Cheers
